To all! the downgrade is based on bovine scatology IMHO.

The story as printed in WSJ interactive reads in part as follows:

"Salomon downgraded Intel because of concerns about the ''new record valuation levels'' and the fourth quarter, analyst Erika Klauer said in a research note.

Fundamentals remain excellent and the company's third quarter continues to promise strong results with an upside surprise potential, Klauer said. Salomon's earnings stimates were unchanged at $4.60 a share for 1996 and $6 for 1997. She also kept her 1988 view at $7.

But the stock has become expensive, she said, adding that it is up more than 236% since Salomon raised it to strong buy in January."

Are they outsourcing their copy these days. her "1988" view? "up more than 236% since January"! Which January was that? $4.60 a share in 1996! even with the "upside earnings surprise"? Intel will make 4.75 walking in their sleep! When's the last time the anal ysis was performed?

They say smoking pot can cause a short term loss of long term memory....or is it long term loss of short term memory? I can't remember. They must have some good stuff at Salamander.

I've always said that brokerage firms just open their mouths and say stuff knowing they can trigger some movement in the stock, which they then capitalize on to increase a sell price or lower a buy-in price. But the story above is full of contradictions. They should at least hire a writer that can make it appear they've done their homework. This one just plain smells bad.

Best Regards
