JVC, Smart Storage Offer New Hardware/ Software Authoring Solutions
JVC Professional Computer Products Division, together with Smart Storage Inc., has announced new DVD authoring systems combining hardware and software solutions designed for premastering audio, video, data, and applications onto DVD-ROM. The systems support standard UDF formatting, testing, and emulation for developing DVD-ROM discs that can be accessed throughout today's installed base of DVD-ROM drives and jukeboxes. The basic system includes a 44GB RAID with DVD-ROM premastering software. The high-end system includes DVD premastering and authoring software packages, 54GB RAID, MPEG-2 encoder/decoder, and a DLT tape drive, all fully integrated into a Pentium II system running under Windows NT 4.0. The DVD image can be output to DLT tape for delivery to a DVD premastering plant. The basic system price starts at $59,995, and the high-end system starts at $99,995.

Pinnacle Systems' Studio MP10 Allows MPEG-1 Capture, Editing
Pinnacle Systems Inc. has announced Studio MP10, a new offering in the company's Studio family of consumer video-editing products. Studio MP10 allows users to capture MPEG-1-compressed video combined with audio, edit it, and then either write the finished program to an MPEG-1 file or output it to a VHS tape. It's an external (parallel port) MPEG-1 capture device that incorporates hardware MPEG-1 decoding for output to videotape, and on-board audio capture and playback for accurate audio/video synchronization. Studio MP10 comes bundled with Pinnacle Systems' Studio video-editing software, which is based on Microsoft's DirectShow technology and allows IBP MPEG-1 editing, including transitions, titles, narration and music, and sound effects. Studio MP10 is compatible with Pentium PCs running Windows 95 and Windows 98, and has a street price of $299.
