For poor Iraqis the temptation to sell stolen antiquities will be greatly increased if it is known there is a ready market in the west. Brings up an interesting point; anti-war protesting does not have an effect on the regime's willingness to fight, yet western art dealers can increase the average Iraqi's temptation to steal treasures.
