I was referring to the 911 horrors. To celebrate Marconi's without at least noting the world-wide commemoration of September seemed callous.

I had read of Sir Peter Blake's death, but I didn't know how close his English connections were. It's strange that pirates are often thought of as part of the romantic past, when they are still a very real and nasty problem. Perhaps romanticism of pirates is a British or, more specifically, an English thing? - Drake and various other Elizabethan seamen made their living from plundering foreign ships while the English Government's attitude varied from irritation, through toleration, to encouragement.
