About a split, the article mainly talkes about the positives of unity of hardware. That's rather an old argument in an age of Mac clones. Even MSFT is regulating standards much more.

A split would do a couple things:
- increase stock valuations
- focus the hardware side on cost cutting instead of relying on the profit fat software side (Claris & OS) to fund it.
- make it more easy to port Mac to Intel machines without upsetting MOT.
- Make the NEXT and NT integration happen faster.
- on the hardware side, encourage spinoffs of those peripherals which aren't core.
- enable the new subs to raise more cash due to higher valuations.
- For Ellison, he'd be able to focus on his NT spokes.

I'm not sure if I like the idea myself. For me what is important is that the Mac OS move in a positive direction. Cloners seem to have proven that hardware can be made by others successfully to promote the Mac.

Sincerely,.
Ben
