The NYTimes coverage of the Tyco jurors was even more sleazoid that Okrent admits - they photographed her leaving the courthouse and published her photograph on the front page. A lot of other papers did, as well.

Public pressure on jurors is destructive to the entire system - people who were reluctant to become jurors due to personal inconvenience now fear public humiliation and even threats, especially if they take unpopular positions.

I admit to being curious about that juror - I tend to admire her for her individualism, but if she did flash the OK sign to the defense, then she might be gaga, and that should have been grounds for a mistrial right there.
