Smith Barney lists 15 "exceptional names"

NEW YORK, July 1 (Reuter) - Smith Barney on Tuesday released a list of 15 stocks selected as ``Exceptional Names,'' a portfolio it views as ``particularly attractive'' over the next 12 months.

Last year's group rose 39.6 percent in the year to June 30, 1997, versus a 32 percent rise for the S&P 500, Smith Barney said.

Among the stocks on this year's list are Avon Products Inc (AVP), BellSouth Corp (BLS), Cisco Systems Inc (CSCO), Dresser Industries Inc (DI), Duke Energy Corp (DUK) and First Bank System Inc (FBS).

Also on the list were Eli Lilly and Co (LLY), Mirage Resorts Inc (MIR), Monsanto Co (MTC), Motorola Inc (MOT), Philip Morris Cos Inc (MO), Textron Inc (TXT), and Wal-Mart Stores Inc (WMT).

Warner-Lambert Co (WLA) and Williams Cos Inc (WMB) rounded out the list.
