Mark,

The announcement Microsoft made during the Paris Card show last week refer to Microsoft full support smart card in the personal computer environment (PC/SC)

The "PC/SC" is not a smart card, it is a standard for smart card application developer to develop application for desktop computers running Windows 9xx or Windows NT operating system. If a smart card application developer release a software that comply to Microsoft PC/SC specifications, then it will run under Windows 9xx and NT. Applications that require a smart card reader such as home ATM, cyberspace shopping, ticketless travel, internet security, cash cards (such as Mondex)could soon be available at home and all you need is a smart card reader that comply to PC/SC specification (available from BIT)attach to your computer.

The answer to your question:
Microsoft is not a competitor to BIT. BIT smart card readers comply to Microsoft PC/SC specification and is available for desktop computers now(please visit www.bit-inc.com). BIT low cost smart card reader that attach to a keyboard is a solution for the mass consumer market where price is critical.

Microsoft's goal: a smart card reader in every desktop and laptop computers. There must be over 100 million personal computer in use today. BIT's goal is to capture a good portion of this huge market.
Very soon, a smart card reader will become a standard component in a PC similar to CD ROM, modem, mouse...etc. Product is available from BIT immediately.
