Greg - Re: "Salomon "

I don't know about very recent history, but I know Salomon made their reputation originally as bond traders.

Recently, they have suffered from a series of disasters associated with their bond trading practices (U.S. Treasury Securities) plus ostentatious opulence (courtesy of Salomon's customers) by their former chairman, John Gutfreund.

(Note on Gutfreund - He makes Jerry Sanders of AMD look like a "piker").

Nearly every financial watch dog of the Federal Government (Treasury, SEC, House Banking Committee, House Government Operations Committee, etc.) has had Salomon under investigation from the late 1980s until recently.

For reference, these troubles have been documented in a book "Nightmare on Wall Street" by Martin Mayer. I think the title aptly describes Salomon's performance.

I relay this information to put the company Salomon in persepctive.

They are not SAINTS. Their reputation as accurate stock/equity evaluaters and prognosticators has yet to be established.
