ESS Announces Super VCD Shipments Pass Two Million Units Mark
FREMONT, Calif., Feb. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- ESS Technology, Inc. (Nasdaq: ESST - news) today announced that its ES4108 MPEG2 solution shipments have recently exceeded 2 million units. The ES4108 meets the Super VCD standard set recently by the China National Committee of Standards.
Since the introduction of ES4108 in October 1998, ESS has shipped over 2 million units of ES4108, making it the fastest growing new product in ESS history. The ES4108 is a highly integrated solution and incorporates MPEG-2 video and audio, On-Screen-Display, Karaoke, System Navigation software, and a Graphic Overlay. When combined with the existing ES3883 companion chips, which includes Audio DAC, TV Encoder, and Echo functions, the ES4108 provides a cost-effective solution to the highly competitive China video market.
SVCD delivers a video image approximately 2 times sharper than the current VCD standard. SVCD is backward compatible with VCD1.1, 2.0, and Interactive VCD3.0 formats, and provides all the standard VCD features including Karaoke, movies, HTML style hyperlinks, games and an index.
Many of leading VCD manufacturers including Gynco, Gio-Yu, Hiteker (Jiang-Qui/Hong Tu), Jian Hai, QiSheng, Nanjin Panda, Solive, Sunstar (Alliance), Ultmost, Wyan, XinTianLi, and Yu-Xin have adopted the ESS ES4108 solution.
