Companies with 20 million or so contacts on a daily or even weekly basis that can't "get back to you soon" will go EMC. So the NTAP/ EMC argument isn't storage but services. IMOHO thank you.

Methinks you oversimplify.

It reminds me of the argument that mainframes are best for OLTP. That is true if one believes that centralized OLTP is better than distributed OLTP.

Y! E-bay and may others process millions of transactions per day on NTAP filers.

The fact is that EMC's architecture is not inherently superior to NTAP's for real time applications. Using ORACLE's methods for distributed RDBMS infrastructure with the data on NTAP filers is not only very fast, but allows for RAID protection without penalty and for backup procedures with no down time. NTAP's SNAPSHOT is far superior to what EMC is not calling "snapshot".

The EMC vs NTAP battle is playing out very similarly to the mainframe vs minicomputer battle of yore, and for good reason.

I am not sure what you mean about "change storage on the fly". Could you elucidate and illustrate?
