Tivo and Replay Networks, watch out. Storage heavyweight Quantum and Panasonic today announced a new High-Definition Television project that will give HDTV receiver users the ability to digitally record and store content.

The new technology, called Quantum QuickView, will compete directly with hardware from Tivo and Replay, which is currently gearing up to ship. QuickView differs from other technologies, because it can record in multiple HDTV formats, officials said.

Quantum and Panasonic will demonstrate the technology at the National Association of Broadcasters conference next month. QuickView is expected to ship later this year in a home video editing console and an HDTV receiver, officials said.
