Rice: Russia Should Increase Oil Supply
April 20, 2005

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said in an interview broadcast on CBS on Wednesday that Russia should increase its supply of oil.

``What Russia can do is to adopt polices in its energy sector in terms of the development of its energy sector that will increase the supply of oil both in the short term and -- hopefully in the short term -- but most especially in the long term,'' she said in the interview.

Rice, who is visiting Moscow for the first time as Washington's top diplomat, said earlier in an interview with a Russian radio station, that the United States would be watching the outcome of oil magnate Mikhail Khodorkovsky's trial ``to see what (it) says about the rule of law in Russia.''

Rice, a former Soviet specialist, was scheduled to see Russian President Vladimir Putin later on Wednesday before leaving for Lithuania.
