"Actually China has a big stake in lowering energy costs. Shipping a container from China to the US has already gone from ~$3k to ~$8K. It gas were to go to $8 a gallon, and it cost $15K to ship a container (along with other logistics costs) they would start losing manufacturing to Mexico and even the US."

This is having one good effect. I read an article where some factories are starting to move BACK to the US from China because the transportation cost has erased the labor cost advantage.
