China's DVD Sales To Grow

After three year's of slow sales it is expected that there will be booming digital video disc (DVD) market in China this year, according to economic analysts.

DVD player sales could reach some one million this year, say delegates attending an international DVD seminar held recently here.

In 1997, DVD player sales in China accounted for only 0.4 percent of the total sales of VCD players and climbed to 2.1 percent last year.

So far, more than 30 Chinese enterprises are involved in the production of DVD players, and with the expansion of the DVD market, their production costs will be further lowered, which will bring the market price down to an acceptable level for most consumers.
