I certainly wouldn't object to you subsidizing American manufacturers, but I wouldn't want the government to subsidize them.

I'm not sure if I'm "pro-union" or not; it depends on what "pro-union" means. Certainly I support the right of workers to organize and negotiate. I do think, though, that workers have to realize that the companies they work for do face competition from companies in other countries. If they want to ask for more money, they have to generate a proportional increase in productivity, or the companies they work for will go out of business. If being "pro-union" means looking on with approval while unions make wage demands that force our industries into non-competitive positions, I'm not pro-union.

I agree that education is important, but you can't force people to become educated, and I don't think it's government's place to try and guarantee high-paying jobs to people who won't take advantage of the opportunities provided for them.
