Density & Tonnage

The bulk density of dry sand is around 100 Lbs per cubic foot. This is a specific gravity of 1.6. This can vary from 90 to 110 depending on the composition of the particles and the sizes of the particles. Based on a dry bulk density of 100 Lbs. per cubic foot, one square mile of land, 100 feet deep would contain 140,000,000 tons. If there were gold present at a grade of .05 oz per ton, there would be 7, 000,000 oz of gold.
