The easy, lazy thing to do is blame unions for automakers' woes. What we're experiencing now, of course, is a slowdown in a cyclical business. If you want to blame anyone, try blaming the Fed for dicking with interest rates and putting new cars out of the reach of more people. Just within the past month Ford paid its union workers a record bonus for calendar year 2000. Believe it came to an average of $6,500 per union employee. Sounds like Ford management may have its act together a little better than Chrysler management. Don't you think? And, hey, here's another novel thought: Perhaps the Ford assembly line men and women actually EARNED their bonus. If you're going to bitch about Chrysler, then tip your hat to Ford.

But nobody on this board believes me.

They're all sending me stories about this union guy or that union guy getting indicted.

What am I supposed to do? Defend criminal activity? If they did the crime, then they'll do the time.
