<<< As the first step, we plan to help create the world's first National Area Network - a network of networks from coast-to-coast that will allow customers and suppliers to access information, each other and advanced applications, no matter where they live or do business.
Basically, this network will carry high resolution, digitized visual information like a state-of-the-art cable network. At the same time, it will be fully interactive like a telephone network. But, it won't become the exclusive domain of any single company or industry. Rather, it will grow through partnerships.
This National Area Network will allow different companies to work together easily to explore new ways to work, learn and entertain through advanced technology.
But to further encourage this collaboration, our second strategy is to help turn Canada into a living lab or a global incubator for new applications, encouraging more investment in research and development.
We believe Canada can become a living laboratory for new communications applications and content. And in the process, Canadian business will have first choice in new services that will rival those available in any other country.>>>

Canada is the world's leader in implementing DSL technology. BCTEL (owned 51% by GTE) was one of the first anywhere to launch ADSL service, second to Saskatchewan, or, perhaps third, depending on Singapore's timing.
At any rate, Nick Mulder's words are not empty rhetoric. Canadian technology is second to none and NN is at the top.
Again, just another opinion.
