Lech Who...?
A fool and his zlotys are soon parted........

Pole Invests Savings in Walesa's Pipe

WARSAW, Poland (Reuters) - A Polish man spent a quarter of
his life's savings to buy a pipe used by former Solidarity trade
union hero and ex-President Lech Walesa, Gazeta Wyborcza daily
reported Tuesday.

The Pole, a tailor identified only by his first name Jan,
took 10,500 zlotys ($2,296) from his 40,000 zloty savings to buy
the pipe in an auction for a children's charity.

Walesa was an heavy cigarette smoker in the early 1980s,
when, as a shipyard electrician, he led Solidarity's struggle
against an oppressive communist regime. He turned to the pipe to
cut down his nicotine intake.

``Lech Walesa is my man. Nobody's smarter and the pipe is
great. ... It is my insurance policy,'' Gazeta quoted Jan as
saying.

He said he planned to auction off the pipe in a few years
time for a big profit.
