MILPITAS, Calif. -- C-Cube Microsystems Inc. here today announced that it is co-developing advanced digital video MPEG encoding software with Microsoft Corp.
Microsoft Windows hardware engineers will be able to use the software in conjunction with C-Cube's DVxplore MPEG-2 encoder to design low-cost MPEG-2 encoding products for consumer PCs. Applications include digital video editing, digital VCR, and time-shifting capabilities.
The new applications will be showcased at Microsoft's WinHEC '99 this week in Los Angeles.
"C-Cube's low-cost MPEG-2 encoding technology is helping enable a new era of video applications," said Carl Stork, general manager of PC hardware strategy at Microsoft, Redmond, Wash. "We can give consumers an opportunity to interact with and create high-quality video on the PC."
For C-Cube's part, "our goal is to make it easier and faster to bring DVxplore-based products to market,"said Fermi Wang, general manager of C-Cube's PC/Codec division.
DVxplore is a single-chip MPEG-2 solution that provides digital recording of TV programs to DVD disc, CD-ROM or a PC hard disk drive. PC OEMs can also offer simultaneous record and playback, allowing consumers to pause, rewind and fast-forward live television broadcasts. |
