Virus Advisory: Central Command Warns All Internet Users of New Variations Of The Computer Worm Worm/Bagel
Saturday February 28, 1:54 pm ET
Within the past 24 hours three new variants of the Internet worm Bagle have been discovered spreading globally; Virus author releasing multiple variations in an attempt to defeat virus protection systems

MEDINA, Ohio, Feb. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Central Command, a leading provider of PC anti-virus software and computer security services, announces the discovery of variants of Internet worm Bagel. These new aggressive Internet worms are spreading globally and multiple variations have been detected within last 24 hours.
"The three variations detected within the last 24 hours indicate that the virus creator is attempting to get his worm to spread by challenging the ability of virus protection systems to adapt to detect his latest modifications," said Keith Peer president and CEO of Central Command, Inc. "Our Emergency Virus Response Team® known as EVRT® is continually responding by updating Vexira® Antivirus to protect its customers. Based on the aggressive nature of these modifications we have scaled the EVRT to be adding more detection for the variants of Bagel throughout the night as needed. It is critical to be running up-to-date antivirus protection. When Monday is upon us and the vast majority of email users return to work and school we could have yet another outbreak condition."

Some common characteristics of the latest variations of the Bagel worm family are:

-- Installs files into the operating system directory
-- Contains it own SMTP email technology
-- Modifies registry keys
-- Opens a TCP/IP port to allow unauthorized access to the infected
computer
-- Attempts to shutdown the ability of some antivirus programs to
function normally
-- Collects email addresses from various files contained on the infected
computer
-- Fakes the sender email address
-- Uses social engineering tricks to entice recipients to open the zip
attachment

Vexira Antivirus starts at $34.95, and a free 30-day trial version may be downloaded from www.centralcommand.com or obtained by contacting Central Command at +1 330 723 2062.
