I have a hard time saying I am empathetic to my kid when she is doing well. In other cultures there are expressions. The Arabs say 'Ma Sha Allah' ... The closest translation meaning, "thank God for such goodness." It recognizes the good but removes the pride aspect by attributing anything good to God's involvement. Doubt that would fly to well in English. Hope you are still working on my request. I have thought about this for a long time. I tell my kids I am proud of them but would really like to find another expression that is clear of double meanings.
