So? It's been nearly 30 years. I doubt if any F-14s of that vintage are still flying any where in the world. They were fragile birds. And the gate is the engines. They need to be run on a regular basis. But, if you run them, you need to service them. And that requires training and parts. True, if they are disassembled and stored, then they can last. But that requires

a) Knowing how to disassemble them and having the tools.

or

b) Having them already crated for storage.

and

c) Knowing how to put them together and having the tools. That includes the right torque on the bolts, knowing which bolt goes where, etc.

Those engines pushed the state of the art of the 1970s to the limit. Maybe past. They were a huge maintenance nightmare until well into the 1980s because of it.

The Iranians can't just take Abdul, who services lawnmower engines or even 727 engines, and have him work on them.
