Indian-Giant leap towards Reform-894 items shifted to OGL, 414 more on SIL

New Delhi, Mar 31: In a major leap forward in economic reforms, the commerce ministry has shifted as many as 894 additional items to the freely importable list. At the same time, 414 items have been permitted to be imported through the special import licence (SIL) route, leaving only 667 items in the restricted list of the revised export-import policy (1997-2002).The policy has also decided to convert all EPZs into free trade zones with a host of new incentives on the lines obtaining in the UAE to free them from the clutches of the customs authorities.
