Pressure from activist groups has also closed the only domestic meat packing plants to handle horse meat.

I grew up in horse country and there is some unintended consequence that I think will come from this. Not all horses make good pets, or good worker horses, or good wild mustangs. The ornery horses used to wind up as a saurbraten in a german festival, but now they are going to be sold cheap on craig's list. whoever buys it is going to discover that they don't like horses after all (because it's never going to be a good horse for them).
