Here's another example of the polarization. It seems we've lost the art of compromise. Until we regain it, polarization will continue:

One of the latest examples is in WA state. The eastern half of the state is primarily Republican; the western portion of the state is primarily Dem. The last governor's race was very close.......the Dem won by only a few hundred votes. However, it was determined that King County Elections poorly managed the 2004 election. There was no criminality but simply sloppy work. Nonetheless, the GOP took King Country Elections to court and lost.

Now in 2008 the same two people are running. Yesterday it was announced that 61 billboards have been put up in eastern WA. They say: "Don't let Seattle steal this Election". The GOP candidate, Dino Rossi, denies any connection to the billboards.

The irony in all of this is that Rossi is not such a great candidate. He is a real estate agent and from what I gather, not a very good one. Consequently, its been reported that the WA state GOP has supplemented his income since 2004. Apparently they think he looks good on paper.....attractive with 2.3 kids and a white picket fence around his house.......and were planning to run him again this year.

Frankly, I don't know what to make of this polarization. I didn't wake up to it until 2000 when Bush ran. The GOP seems to be either very angry, or simply wants to own everything in this country. Apparently, they mostly had their way for the past 30 years and now have a strong sense of entitlement. I think getting them to back down is going to be very difficult.
