Should I now forget the ScanDisk program?

I wouldn't. I've seen many opinions on scandisk, chkdsk, and defrag...both pro and con. I don't think there's an absolute answer. I defrag and run chkdsk once a week. Defrag usually takes about 5-10 minutes and then I start chkdsk and go watch TV. Takes about 30-45 minutes and then reboots. I don't access it through the run box. It does not give you the option to repair any bad sectors or fix file system errors. Double-click My Computer, right click drive "c", choose properties, Tools tab, hit the check now button and put a checkmark in both boxes. Ok your way out and you will get a message stating that checkdisk will run on your next startup. Do a restart and it will run.
