Peter, apparently you weren't listening when the administration "talking heads", including Cheney, were saying how much the Iraqis would welcome liberation and how Iraq's own oil revenues would probably pay for most of the changeover.

As far as "improving" the conditions of the Iraqi people...maybe you should check in with the women of Basra that are harrassed if they leave the house not dressed modestly enough.

As far as "changing hearts". Are you a Christian, Peter? If you are do you think you would give up your beliefs easily?

If not, then you must understand that the Muslims of Iraq are VERY religious and would like their government to follow the religious teachings of the Koran. They'd probably also prefer an alliance with a country of the same faith, such as Iran, rather than an "infidel" nation like us.

So...Iraq will have democracy, but it may not be one that we like very much.
