Burning Man The Burning Man festival is an eight-day-long event that is held annually, beginning on the last Monday of August and ending over the Labor Day holiday in early September. Thousands of people dance, hug, cheer and dance some more as the annual Burning Man counterculture festival comes to a fiery close with the traditional torching of its namesake object on the northern Nevada desert. The festival takes place on the playa of the Black Rock Desert in Nevada, though the specific location on the playa changes from year to year. The 40-foot-tall wooden figure known as "The Man" went up in flames accompanied by a spectacular fireworks show, 110 miles north of Reno.
