One reason I liked Carter was that I identified with him personally. Neither of us embraced the power thing. I don't want anyone to have power over me but neither do I want power over them. While Carter was in the White House, I was trying to figure out how to be a line manager without wielding power in the traditional way. I recall identifying with him and his travails informed my thinking quite a bit. Fortunately, I was able to effect a non-traditional management approach in my modest position. I don't think it's feasible for a President.

P.S. Which reminds me, a while back I was talking about training I had had on facilitation of group consensus processes. I remember that the trainers said that their people were with Carter using the same techniques that I was taught when Carter, Sadat, and Begin did the peace deal. FWIW. Another trip down memory lane.
