As far as the corporate buyer (70% of all PC purchases) is concerned, hardware over its useful life is only 1/8 the total cost - when software, maintenance, and support is included. So for less than 10% more you get the lastest in feeds and speeds - it does not make sense to do otherwise.

For the typical consumer, however, a PC purchase is a major expense item and the purchase should be good for a number of years. It doesn't seem to make sense then to purchase a computer that is good only for the things you wanted to do yesterday - does it?

That is like 5 years ago, you bought a 286 computer with a 1200 Baud modem - where would you be with that?
