Actually, its been awhile since I was at the beach at Galveston. Years ago you'd find little tar like dots on the sand and have to wash off your feet. My understanding is that came from ships going in to the Port of Houston - one of the nations major ports. The last few times at Galveston, I remember the beach being clean. Now it didn't look nice and white, it looks dingy but it isn't - just the it looks naturally. No tar.

Now south TX has pretty beaches. As good as I remember HA. Better than FL east coast beaches as I remember them even longer ago. What I remember there is picking up trash (real trash with writing on it) from Cuba. Even remember finding some Cubans ID card washed up on the beach.
