OT - When discussing personal responsibility, you omit the most important one of all - the responsibility of women not to exposing themselves to the risk of unwanted pregnancy by engage in intercourse with men who won't marry them.

Fooling around before marriage is something people have always done - but it was before *marriage*.

I realize this is an old fashioned point of view, but it works more often than not. Historical studies have shown that at least 25% of first born children in early America had to have been conceived before marriage. I know a lot of marriages like this, including several in my own extended family. My sister's father-in-law has told me that he knew of several in his extended family, and he is almost 80. So extramarital intercourse is nothing new.

But our modern day "solutions" - abortion, adoption, foster care, illegitimacy - are unsatisfactory because ideally a child is raised in a family formed by the union of a man and a woman.

How is that for a radical idea?

Speaking of foster care, at least the state-run foster care, I have never seen a child in foster care whose parents were not almost completely dysfunctional, without the ability to 1) care for the child, or 2) let the child be adopted. The parents of foster care children are, invariably, drug addicts and/or incarcerated and/or unable to maintain a job and a fixed residence. Most people without a job can keep their kids by living in shelters. The people whose kids go into foster care can't even do that.

Social workers don't want to put kids into foster care unless there is NO workable alternative.
