Mel, and company, wonder what your takes are on the discount brokerage houses? Both major players(AMTD<EGRP) were down yesterday. I understand that AMTD has some uglyness happening since yesterday afternoon. Down 3ishpoints in last hour or so. I read that they weren't going to meet expectations. Also heard that they filed for authourization of 60 million shares. Some say it's to offer a 2:1 split, others say it's to raise capitol. The real vibe here appears to be that of a 'sinking ship'. Looks like it will probally open down. Wait till mid morning and maybe pick it up for 20-21?
In general though, these (one would think ) companies can only rise in revenues with all the on-line trades, and etc.... One down turn will be when they slash comissions again. The one who initiate the cut will be the company who is ready finiancially to take a cut in revenues. Who ever isn't readymight get left behind.......... but only for a while. The real winner will be the company who manages not to screw up accounts, trades, and who can respond to the traders in a very timly fasion(like 2 minutes or less from phone ringing to execution.)
what do you all think. A.W.
