Another quote comes to mind that the politicians better worry about for the election(s):

"It's the economy stupid"

Instead of people asking who dropped the ball on Russia people will ask who dropped the ball on the global economy/US economy. I think both Republicans(for playing politics with Clinton) and Democrats(Clinton should have never gotten himself into the hole) would have to share the blame equally.
