Probably because they're spread out all over the map .... you see, Ilk appears to be the germanicised form of Ilkium, the earliest recorded name .... 'ilkium' is of course the geogrative plural case in latin of ilkiumus, or 'ink-blot', which suggests that its origin lies in the practise of pre-Gutenberg cartographers to have copies of maps made by their students, who, when the master went down to the pub, would horse around and fling stuff
Hard to say what possessed the founder of this thread in that fateful moment of pushing 'submit' ...
