Option, the Belgian company, wants to make it easy for you to get fast wireless Internet access with your laptop anywhere in the world. They have unveiled their new GTM351E PCI Express Mini Card embedded wireless module.

The module gives you a wide range of options. It supports 3G HSDPA/UMTS and Quad band EDGE/GPRS WWAN technologies. The module is just being unveiled now, but it has already won a design award from ‘a major IT manufacturer’.

The PCI Express Mini Card is a new standard. It is replacing the mini-PCI connector that was used on system boards. The new standard includes connector pin-outs. That means that SIM interfaces can be integrated.

The GTM351E has already shipped to manufacturers for platform integration. The module should be available for commercial shipments sometime in the first half of 2006.

Option has also supplied the module to mobile network operators so that they can test for conformance and product validation.
