Lightspan's Academic Systems Signs $1.2 Million, Multi-Year Higher Education Contract Florida College Contract Marks Significant Milestone In Growth of Lightspan's Campus-wide Implementations SAN DIEGO, May 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Lightspan, Inc. (Nasdaq: LSPN - news), a leading provider of quality curriculum-based software and Internet products and services used in schools and homes, announced today its higher education division, Academic Systems, has signed a $1.2 million agreement with St. Petersburg Junior College (SPJC) in Florida to expand the college's already significant use of the company's materials.
``This contract greatly expands our products and services throughout the college's nine campuses and centers,'' said Lightspan CEO John Kernan. ``It reflects the loyalty and commitment that Lightspan has built up with its customers over the years, not only in the K-12 market, but, increasingly, in the higher education market. And it demonstrates how Lightspan's family of products is being implemented not only in individual schools, but throughout an entire district or college system.''
Through the new agreement, all SPJC students will have access to Academic Systems' award-winning multimedia instructional materials. Previously, only students enrolled in specific English and math courses could benefit. The college plans to expand its use of Lightspan's higher education products, extending them to serve new student groups including workforce development students as well as high school students who are prepared to take advanced math courses. This learning program will be available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, from any computer with Internet access.
Dr. Carol Copenhaver, Senior Vice President for Educational and Student Services, praised the scalability and flexibility of Lightspan's higher education products, which allow the SPJC system to expand its offerings to students systemwide. ``Faculty in a whole range of topic areas can now use Academic Systems to help their students with key concepts -- from break-even analysis in economics classes to medical calculations in nursing classes,'' said Dr. Carol Copenhaver. ``Through this agreement we will also continue to offer math and English courses using Academic Systems, giving students choices that best suit their learning styles.''
``This is our fifth year working with SPJC, and this new contract demonstrates our ability to greatly expand the reach of Lightspan's higher education product line, not only with new customers, but by significantly growing with our existing customers,'' said Jim Dredge, CEO of Lightspan's Academic Systems. |
