Interesting question you asked 2 weeks ago. Now both the SF Chronicle and one of the Communications trade journals have indicated that an announcement will be made by both companies (StrataCom and Ascend) AND Cisco that they're going to jointly develope a piece of gear for the ISP market, each company contributing that which it has in strength.

I hope I'm not breaking any copyright laws by inserting a quote from the Chronicle's story(for the full story check out the site-- sfgate.com before midnight PDT):

"In one of the biggest collaborative efforts in computer networking, Cisco Systems, Stratacom and Ascend Communications are
joining forces to help ease gridlock on the Internet.

The deal between the three Bay Area companies, to be officially announced on Monday, will make networking equipment --
the plumbing of the Internet -- fit together more easily. The technology alliance promises to increase the capacity of networking
systems by fourfold without additional cost."

Maybe it's like politics: high tech companies make for strange bedfellows.

Anyone have any comments on this development?
