Yes, that is exactly the kind of post I would like to discuss. I am not interested in discussing the poster- but the various issues in his post deserve discussion. Thanks for bringing it here.
To take one of the last issues he raises, female genital mutilation- this is a subject that could occupy a whole thread. I'm sure most people here are against this, but the real question, the more interesting question, is what to DO about it. Supporting Israel (imo) has very little to do with changing the cultures that embrace mutilation (remember Africa and the Far East are involved in this as well as the ME.)

Clearly there are many points in this post that are handled in an irresponsible and specious way- it is my hope that we can take posts like this, and take them apart, piece by superficial piece, and have a meaningful and reasonable discussion, that can only highlight the poverty of thought in the original post (not in the POSTER, mind you, but in the post- I happen to think that many people who post this type of thing could do better, they do have ideas, they simply don't bother to think before they post, and perhaps we can encourage more nuanced and reasonable thinking.) |
