Faith should be active, not a passive, always trusting in Him....Faith should be our confident obedience to God's word, regardless of the consequences, and circumstances, we may find ourselves in. I wonder how many of us that are Christian believers really exercise all of our faith .........Oh, we've trusted God for our Salvation, ...but do you ever trust Him to provide all in our day, to day, living? This weekend The Masters, my favorite Golf Tournament, is on TV, and it reminds me of a story a friend of mine told me about the time he played Augusta National. He told me they assign caddies to you and that the caddy carefully monitors your shots as you're playing so that he can help you with your club selection. He said he was playing very well that day when they came to the 13th hole, a dogleg, 510 yard par five at "Amen Corner." Isn't that a great name........and for those who didn't know it "Amen Corner" was given that moniker in a Sports Illustrated article following the 1958 Masters where Arnold Palmer earned his first major championship by playing holes 11, 12 and 13 in a seemingly miraculous way on that final day. Anyway, my friend said "I hit a booming drive, but knowing that lots of tour players try to hit over the creek to the green in two - and miss, - I never thought of trying it myself and so he asked his caddie what iron he needed to lay up with. He said the caddie looked at him and said, "you flew all the way from Chicago to play this course, right" My friend said he nodded and then the caddie said "Do you think you'll ever be back to play here again?" "I really doubt it," my friend replied, "this is probably a one in a lifetime opportunity for me." "Then you've come much too far too lay up at this point" the caddie responded. Our Lord has brought all of us too far for to not exercise our Faith and just settle for the safety of simply laying up, because just like my friend, who played Augusta National, we'll never pass this way again. In closing, what do you think you would attempt today if you knew that failure was impossible.......would you be like King Jehoshaphat, who after being assured of God's help, went boldly out with the army of Judah and soundly defeated the vast armies of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir? - II Chronicles 20:5-25 God bless you, my friends, and always remember to "Hit em Straight" Jon GB-ND c |
