News Release
Mr Don Caron reports
The company has received further encouraging samples from Chupukama Ridge
prospect in SPL190, Guadalcanal, Solomon Islands.
Channel samples were taken up a steep 60m long recent landslip face above the
horizontal channel sampling done by WPI geologists which was reported in a
news release in Stockwatch January 22 1997, yielding 55m at 1.63 g/t gold.
Results from the latest vertical sampling includes:
55m at 2.39 g/t gold
including 5m at 11.05 g/t gold in the
top sample, indicating an open
structure vertically.
and
35m at 1.46 g/t gold
including 5m at 8.7 g/t gold, this
structure was also open vertically
with top sample yielding 0.4 g/t.
The samples were collected from clay altered diorite with quartz stockwork and
up to 10% pyrite.
Two other sample lines approximately 200m and 350m, respectively, to the south
along strike at the landslip yielded 30m at 0.61 g/t gold and 25m at 0.18 g/t gold.
WPI is targeting a zone approximately 700m long and up to 150m wide. The zone
is open to the north where it is 150m wide and averaging 1.3 g/t gold. Chupukama
Ridge has potential to yield a significant gold resource in a vein swarm system
similar to Ross Mining's Gold Ridge (one million oz reserve) currently being
developed, 6km to the east of Chupukama Ridge.
Field work has now been focused around this area to delineate geological
structures and surface expression of this zone and a field crew has been mobilized
to undertake this work immediately.
