Heinz outsources American jobs Officials said Heinz has continued to squeeze out costs with initiatives such as installing better software capable of sourcing purchases online and outsourcing some functions in the United Sates. The latter includes a portion of its information technology work done in Pittsburgh, Canada and Europe to an international unit of IBM. Heinz spokesman Robin Teets yesterday said the move will affect about 105 employees, including approximately 35 Pittsburgh -- roughly a third of the local information technology staff. Heinz employees have until next week to decide whether to take jobs offered by IBM Global Services, which Teets said is offering employment to affected Heinz workers for a "short term." The work transfer to IBM Global, which operates development centers around the world including India, is to be completed by April. miami.com
