Lind's speculation that the president may not even be aware of what this cabal has foisted upon him embodies the hallmarks of conspiratorial reasoning. In his words, "It is not clear that George W. fully understands the grand strategy that Wolfowitz and other aides are unfolding. He seems genuinely to believe that there was an imminent threat to the U.S. from Saddam Hussein's 'weapons of mass destruction,' something the leading neocons say in public but are far too intelligent to believe themselves."

While it seems far fetched that the President would be so out of touch, what is not covered is the extremely limited amount of information he is given. Nobody talks to W unless they and their message have been approved by Karl Rove and Dick Cheney. While various advisors like Condi Rice feed him with facts and figures until his eyes roll back, it is not until Cheney tells him what it means that action is taken. Junior only gets one story, first directly and then he is sat in front of Faux TV to receive the same story again.
