I think your assessment is very good. I'd like to add that most, if not all, of Intel upper management, as well as their most fervent groupies on this thread are Ph.D. electrical engineers. But, as Andy Grove noted in, "Only the Paranoid Survive", Intel needs to develop software talent in 50% of their top executives. That's why they chose to share their technology with HP. In the future, I think we're likely to add HP to the AMD/Cyrix/IBM crowd as the most dangerous competitors.
