Avid Continues to Dominate Fall Prime Time TV Lineup as Editing System of Choice Avid Continues to Dominate Fall Prime Time TV Lineup as Editing System of Choice October 15, 1997 1:47 PM EDT
BURBANK, Calif.--(ENTERTAINMENT WIRE)--Oct. 15, 1997--
Record Number of Shows Using Avid's Digital Editing Technology
in Fall '97 Season
Avid Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ:AVID) announced today that over three-quarters of the shows in the 1997 Fall prime time television season (90 out of 113)(a) are being edited on Avid's industry-leading Media Composer and Film Composer systems. This includes returning shows such as "Home Improvement," "NYPD Blue," "Party of Five," "Ellen," and "ER," as well as 32 of the 37 shows premiering this fall.
"We are pleased by Avid's continued dominant presence in this fall season," said Halid E. Hatic, Avid's Director of Western Area Operations. "Avid's impact on this community is demonstrated by the fact that nearly 90 percent of the premiering shows are using our technology. We will continue working to support and enhance our product and service offerings to Hollywood."
Avid Helps Contribute to Show's Look and Rhythm "The look of the show would have been impossible to achieve without a digital nonlinear editing system, such as the one offered by Avid," said Randy Jon Morgan, the Emmy-award winning editor for NBC's hit drama "ER." Morgan has been using Avid's Media Composer system to edit "ER" for the last four seasons. "Avid's system offers features that allow us to put scenes together quickly and efficiently in order to bring out the complex sequences and rhythms of the show. An additional advantage to the Avid system is the company's ability to move ahead and build future technology innovations into its offerings."
Use of Avid Multicamera Continues To Grow A growing number of situation comedies (39 of the 90 shows using Avid) are using Avid's Media Composer system with multicamera capabilities, which plays back four images simultaneously so editors and producers can make decisions and instantly switch between cameras to cut on the fly. Shows using this feature include "Everybody Loves Raymond," "The Drew Carey Show," "Seinfeld" and "3rd Rock From the Sun."
"As somebody who doesn't knows much about computers, this has been a really easy system for me to learn," said Pat Barnett, editor of "Everybody Loves Raymond." "It's very simple to understand and very fast. The multicam option helps me cut time off the editing process and helps producers make decisions about final edits very quickly. They are able to watch the same scene from the four different camera angles for as long as they want. They then can make a decision, and I can make the changes while the producers wait. Since we can be working on two or three episodes at a time, it has helped to improve my efficiency and the process of getting episodes finished."
