When you get right down to it you can't even prove that you're breathing. There's Absolute Proof, then there's "good enough". And if I understand E correctly, and I presume to speak in her stead here - there is no "good enough" way to reconcile an orthodox view of a God who minds a "sparrow's fall" with one who sees benefit in burning a child. We're all taking this very seriously here. Nobody here is making an attempt to upset anyone's faith. The "regulars" here are too smart and too nice for that. I for one am immensely enjoying te discussion here - both its scope and its tone. Rare for the discussion of such a hypergolic topic. What somewhat creases me is that nobody here has taken my challenge seriously of contemplating an absent-minded God. One who looks at the burnt child and mutters "damn" for not having paid Attention. It's a tougher argument to dismiss than I initially thought. :-)
