After we went from a partial conscript army to no draft in 1973, army strength dropped from over 1 million to under 480,000.

Today we have about 540,000 in the army. I see it heading to 450,000 (or lower) in 3 years or less and much lower eventually.

The recent story about the relieved carrier commander will be nothing compared to future films about gay activities in the barracks.

It will very difficult to get the draft going again...perhaps impossible. West Pointers will lead the fight to prevent it. They don't want the leadership challenge that comes with draftees.

Yesterday SECDEF proposed eliminating 90 senior general officer positions and downgrading many more. Each senior GO position eliminated will result in a larger reduction in lower ranked GOs. He is also eliminating commands like JFCOM, a 4-star command. That will drive West Pointers nuts as it cuts into their opportunities.

Anyway you spell it, this is an officer RIF (reduction in force).
IMO in preparation for a bigger RIF, and/or voluntary reduction, of lower ranks.

O may get his civilian defense force equal to or stronger than the army before he serves out 8 years.
