Regretfully I tend to agree with you. And I am really not sure how the FED can help.

Economy is based on consumer confidence. And confidence - these days - is more than just having the money or liquidity - it goes beyond liquidity and into social and political territories. I do not believe liquidity is really the problem (neither at the consumer nor at the financial instituiton or government levels). The problem is a sense of not knowing what the future would hold for you, that fear of unknown that prevents one to be optimistic about one's future well being - which makes one be very conservative when it comes to spending.
